Plarn Market Bag

This versatile hauler has a wide shoulder strap for comfort carrying heavy loads.

Materials needed

  • Quarter-inch wide plarn
  • “I” hook

Pattern

Start with magic adjustable ring

Round 1: 12 double crochet, mark last stitch with stitch marker
Note: Continue crocheting in a spiral rather than joining with slip-stitch

Round 2: 2 double crochet in space between stitches – 24 dc
Note: Move stitch marker to last double crochet to indicate end-of-round now and throughout

Round 3: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next, repeat around – 36 dc

Round 4: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next, 1 double crochet in next, repeat around – 48 dc

Round 5: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next 3 spaces – 60 dc

Round 6: double crochet in each space around

Round 7: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next 4 spaces – 72 dc

Round 8: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next 7 spaces – 81 dc

Round 9: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next 8 spaces – 90 dc

Round 10: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next 9 spaces – 99 dc

Round 11: double crochet in each space around

Round 12: 2 double crochet in next space, 1 double crochet in next 10 spaces – 108 dc

Rounds 13 through 28: double crochet in each space around

Round 29: dc2tog, double crochet in next 8 spaces, repeat around -98 dc
dc2tog (double crochet decrease)

Round 30: double crochet in each space around

Round 31: dc2tog, double crochet in next 4 spaces, repeat around – 82 dc

Round 32: double crochet in each space around, do not fasten off

Handles

Row 33: dc2tog, double crochet in next 26 spaces, dc2tog, leave remaining stitches unworked

Rows 34 through 40: chain 3, turn, dc2tog, double crochet in each space across to last 3 spaces, dc2tog, dc in next space

Rows 41 through 53: chain 3, turn, double crochet in same space, double crochet in each space across – 9 dc

Fasten off at end of Row 53.

Skip 11 spaces from last stitch worked in Row 33. Join plarn with slip stitch in next space, chain 2, insert hook into next space and pull up loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook to count as first dc2tog and work same as First Handle. Do not fasten off. From wrong side single crochet ends of handles together.

Finishing

From right side, single crochet evenly around edges of handles. Weave in ends.
